YouTube

YouTube is one of the biggest social media platforms for people all over the world to post videos and content for people to watch. These videos that people post can be about anything, ranging from education, informative topics, something political, music videos, hauls, vlogs- you name it. The YouTube industry has grown tremendously over the past decade and is continuing to gain more subscribers and content creators as the years progress. The history behind YouTube began in 2004 through 2005 by three young men who worked for the PayPal company together- Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. The original idea behind this new media outlet was to be a dating site for people across the country but was restricted to only private users. Eventually, these three men realized that they should make YouTube public and opened to everyone, and began seeing content that wasn't related to the original dating site idea they had in mind. Videos began going viral in other countries ranging from millions of views and this is when YouTube became open to any type of content for videos being uploaded.

Hurley, Chen, and Karim came up with this idea of YouTube in their garage located in California and is now owned by Google reaching billions of people. Google bought YouTube in 2006, only 2 years after even thinking about this idea in their garage, for a total of 1.65 billion dollars. Ever since being bought by Google, YouTube has been made available to people in other countries, along with paying content creators depending on their views, and allowing users to subscribe to different channels. The new headquarters is now located in San Bruno, California which is home to over 3,000 employees.

As mentioned before, YouTube was originally created as a dating site that eventually transformed into a site full of many different types of content meeting a multitude of people's preferences. As YouTube began growing in the early 2000's, more and more people have become creators and post videos as if it is their full time job. Some creators make over millions of dollars a year from YouTube by simply posting gaming content or even clothing hauls. The way YouTube can change someone's life after posting a few videos is unbelievable and a lot of people try to take advantage of this open opportunity. However, it is hard to become famous on YouTube and gain millions of subscribers because of how competitive this site is. Billions of people use this media outlet making it hard for people to succeed, but people do make it happen. YouTube also inspires people all over the world, especially children in this case. Many kids look up to certain creators as their role models and someone who they want to be, which could potentially be a bad thing in a way. People need to watch what they post because any content can be posted and young children could see something that is negative. However, YouTube does have the ability to take down any video without a reason if it goes against the community guidelines that creators have to sign when creating an account.
